Switzerland!

Today we took a train from Salzburg to Zurich. We were a little bummed to be leaving Salzburg. The view from the train of the Alps was beautiful though! Some of the Alps still had snow!

They were working on a part of the tracks so we had to take a train to one station, take a one hour bus ride to another, and then get on another train to finally get into Zurich. It made the trip seem longer than it was, and we got there around 2. After looking at a map, we realized that our hotel was actually pretty close this time (the street was just across the bridge from the train station). We went out and realized we could see the Marriott from where we were standing. Yes!

So we walked down and checked in. At first she told us that my dad had to be there (since it's his name on the account). We informed her that he had told the woman when he booked the room that it was for his daughter. She said she wasn't sure since they usually didn't allow that. So she went to talk to someone else and then came back and said we were right. That he had mentioned me and added my name to the account (it was even printed on their paper). She was pretty sheepish.

So we get to our room where they have chocolates on our pillow. Late they brought us a truffle and cookies. Mmmmm so good. Belgium claimed to have the best chocolate, but I really like Swiss chocolate. Milka, Lindt, Toblerone, come on, you can't beat those! I napped for a little bit, tired from traveling. Then we decided to go see Zurich with the little time that we had.

Two things that we realized: There wasn' t much to see in Zurich besides museums and churches and everything is really expensive since their currency is so strong. Everything seemed so overpriced!

The Grossmünster (iconic church of Zurich)

St. Peter's. It has the largest church clock face in the world!

Limmat River

We found a little hill overlooking the city and river

It is a beautiful city!

I dunno what this was, but it had a colorful roof!

There was a pretty park across the river from our hotel

We decided to go to a grocery store for dinner. We picked up a loaf of fresh bread, salami, and grapes. It was simple and delicious. We went back to our room and ate in bed while watching "Two and a Half Men" (which we were happy was in English). Then "Legally Blonde" came on and we watched that too. Doug had never seen it before and liked it.

We stayed in the same hotel and loved the view. Papa bought a lot of chocolate there at the railway station to take home. He agrees it's the best in the world. It was selling at bargain prices at the time.In fact, we found the food at the rail stations was good and also reasonable. Perhaps that has changed.
